Kitchen remodel pricing confuses people because two kitchens that look identical in photos can be very different jobs. Here's what actually moves the number.
The big three drivers
Moving the layout. The sink, stove, and fridge are attached to plumbing, gas or heavy electrical, and venting. Leave them where they are and the job stays simpler. Move any of them and you've added trades, permits, and time.
Cabinetry. The largest single line on most kitchen budgets. Stock cabinets cost least, semi-custom sits in the middle, and fully custom — built for your actual walls — costs the most and earns it mainly in odd-sized or older kitchens. Our honest take: custom vs. stock cabinets.
Counters and backsplash. Material choice and edge details matter, but so does the labor: full-height backsplashes and complex tile patterns add skilled hours.
What keeps the cost down
- Keeping the sink, stove, and fridge where they are
- Stock or semi-custom cabinets where they fit
- Standard tile in standard patterns
- Making every selection before demo day
The older-home factor
Kitchens in older Waco and Belton homes often hide old wiring and galvanized plumbing. If walls are opening anyway, that's the right time to deal with it — but it belongs in the budget conversation up front, not as a mid-job surprise.
The real number for your kitchen comes from a walk-through, not a website. See our pricing page for the full driver list, the kitchen remodeling service page for what's included, and the cost questions in our FAQ.
