Most remodeling websites read like the work is painless. It isn't, and pretending otherwise is how homeowners end up blindsided. Here are the real problems with a bathroom remodel — from people who do them for a living.
Problem 1: You lose the bathroom
From demo day until the rebuild is done, that bathroom is out of service. If it's your only one, this is the biggest issue on the whole project, and it deserves a real conversation before you sign anything — not a shrug on demo day. Ask every contractor you interview how long the outage will run and how they know.
Problem 2: Dust travels
Demolition dust finds its way farther than you'd think. Good containment — plastic barriers, floor protection, daily cleanup — keeps it manageable. Ask how the contractor handles it, because "we're careful" is not a containment plan.
Problem 3: Strangers in your house
For two to four weeks, people you didn't know last month are in your home on a schedule you don't control. This is why we run small, consistent teams: the same faces every day, and one accountable name — the owner's — on the contract.
Problem 4: What's behind the wall gets a vote
Especially in older Central Texas homes. Plaster hides things. Cast iron drains corrode from the inside. Honest contractors budget time for surprises and tell you the day they find one, with photos and options. Read more about how we handle this on our process page.
Who should honestly wait
If your budget has no cushion for surprises, if you can't lose the bathroom for a few weeks, or if you're six months from selling and a refresh would do — wait, or do the smaller job. We explain that choice in remodel vs. partial refresh.
