What Drives Tree Trimming Cost in Central Texas

RBP Home Services · 2026-05-09

Two trees the same size can cost very different amounts to trim. Here's what actually drives the difference.

The big drivers

Height and size. The obvious one. A mature live oak's canopy is a different day of work than a young ornamental.

What's underneath. This is the driver homeowners don't expect. Limbs over open lawn come down fast. Limbs over your roof, your fence, a neighbor's shed, or a power drop have to be roped and lowered piece by piece — slower, more skilled, and priced accordingly. It's also exactly where cheap, fast crews cause the damage that costs far more than the trim.

Access. Can equipment reach the tree, or does everything move through a gate by hand? Backyard trees behind fences cost more than front-yard trees for honest logistical reasons.

Condition. Deadwood removal from a neglected canopy takes longer than maintenance trimming on a tree that's been kept up. Storm-damaged hangers are slow, careful work because they're unpredictable.

Haul-off. A mature oak trim generates a startling volume of brush. Hauling and disposal are part of our price, not a surprise line item — worth confirming with anyone you hire.

What keeps it reasonable

Regular maintenance instead of decade-long gaps, good access, and combining trees into one visit rather than one-offs.

One more Central Texas factor: timing. Oak trimming should avoid oak wilt season — see when to trim oaks. For the rest, see the tree trimming service page, our pricing page, and our FAQ.
